I have hooded upper eyelids and crows feet

Hooded eye lids can make someone feel old and look tired all the time, and the main cause for this is sagging skin that folds down below the brow bone, and obscures the upper eyelids, giving a “hood” like appearance.

Loose or excessive upper eyelid skin may be due to the natural process of ageing as the skin loses its normal elasticity, and the supportive connective tissue becomes weaker.  In some cases the cause can be a genetic factor and some people are born with hooded eyelids.  However these can become more noticeable overtime due to environmental factors such as smoking, sunlight exposure, or natural ageing.

Hooded eyelids can have cosmetic implications but also can cause functional problems and impact vision.  The upper and outer visual field is obscured most commonly and this can cause problems with daily activities such as driving or even walking around.

There are several options available to correct this issue.  These range from non-surgical treatments through to surgical treatment such as an eyelid blepharoplasty.  A blepharoplasty involves small incisions in the upper eyelid creases to remove excess skin and tighten the muscles.  This can sometimes also be combined with a brow lift.  At Northwood we would look at your key concerns and wishes to tailor treatment to your individual needs.
